The rights of the foreigners

Due to economic growth and favorable living conditions, Slovenia has become an increasingly attractive destination for aliens in recent years. The decision to move to Slovenia can be personal or business. In both cases, it is crucial that the foreigner’s stay in Slovenia is legal.

Citizens of EU Member States can enter and stay in Slovenia for a maximum of 90 days for any period of 180 days, which covers every day of stay in the last 180 day period. For stays longer than 90 days, citizens of EU Member States need to register residence in Slovenia. With our experience, we advise you to apply for a residence permit and we represent you before administrative authorities and in an administrative dispute against the decisions of the administrative authorities.

In particular, Slovenia is attractive for third-country nationals who want to work in Slovenia. Third-country nationals must obtain a permit before entering Slovenia. Since the first residence permit (either a temporary residence permit, or a single residence permit and a work permit) is issued with a validity of up to one year, it is essential that an alien applies for an extension of the residence permit before the expiration of validity. We provide our clients with assistance in applying for an extension of validity of the relevant license, representing them before administrative authorities and administrative disputes against decisions of administrative bodies.

A foreigner residing in Slovenia also has the right to family reunification under certain conditions. The Aliens Act among family members includes:

  • spouse, partner in a partner community a relationship or a partner with whom an alien lives in a long-standing living community,
  • minor unmarried children of an alien,
  • juvenile unmarried children of a spouse, partner in a partner community, a relationship or a partner with whom an alien lives in a long-standing living community,
  • the parents of a minor alien with whom he / she lived in the family before coming to the Republic of Slovenia,
  • adult unmarried children and parents of an alien, spouse, partner in a partner community, a relationship or a partner with whom an alien lives in a long-standing living community, whom an alien, a spouse, a partner in a partner community, or a partner in relationship or a partner with whom an alien lives in a long-standing living community, is obliged to subsist according to the law of the country of which he is a citizen.
